The Connected Educator Summary of Chapter 2 - Camryn Juckett
In this chapter of The Connected Educator it emphasizes on professional learning communities. This typically means that educators come together and share their thoughts to become better in the classroom and help students reach their full potential in the classroom. In my future profession as a physical therapist or athletic trainer, it will be important to share thoughts and ideas to better understand how you can help your patients and figure out the best treatment you should give. For example, "'When teachers collaborate and share their practices collaboratively, they become aware of colleagues with better results and are more receptive to adopting effective practices that lead to improved teaching and learning'" (page 36). This demonstrates that in my future career, I can share my thoughts with other colleagues to get better results and further my knowledge and make my own personal work stronger as well. Another example is, "'To stimulate new ideas, facts, experiences, possibilities, insights, perspectives, and skills -- conceptions and conversations need to bump against each other in fresh and surprising ways.'" (page 41). This also shows that speaking to colleagues about your new ideas and experiences is a way to shed light on some things people didn't see from that type of perspective. It just gives people a new thought process by hearing the way others think about a certain topic. Overall, this chapter taught me to be more open to new ideas that people have and to think about things in multiples perspectives than just my own because it could help me in the long run with my future career.
I do think that using your peers or superiors might help you better comprehend various issues and points of view. The fact that you might be able to find a better way or a breakthrough makes me think that this is also very important in terms of your work and these skills. Who is to say that your professional practices can't change and advance along with the rest of the world? I appreciate how you back this up by demonstrating how it will strengthen your own job. Later in your post, you make similar points to mine. Superb post!
ReplyDeleteHi Camryn,
ReplyDeleteI really like how you connected your future profession as an athletic trainer or physical therapist to the chapter this week. Collaboration is very important in our future careers. I think it was a great thing for us to read this. Professional learning communities will come in handy when we need to work on projects with our colleagues. For example, bringing your perspective and your colleagues perspectives together will help you better serve your clients. Group work and collaboration will always be an essential part of any career. It is important to learn this now so we can utilize it in our further careers. Keep up the great work!
Hey Camryn,
ReplyDeleteThis chapter focuses on the different learning models and why it is important to learn them. Professional learning communities are the most important learning model because it allows you to grow by hearing from other people's view, ultimately learning from them. You stated that you want to be a physical therapist; listening to your peers and co-workers may help with your patients. Most Physical Therapists should already have a set progress workout for their patients, but learning from other therapists is never a bad idea. Overall nice job!
Hi Camryn,
ReplyDeleteBeing able to be connected to other communities to help your patients is a great resource, and opportunity for many professions. In your future profession as a physical therapist or athletic trainer do you think there are any website in particular that doctors could use to help their patients, or any online groups? Such as a doctors Facebook group, or do you think it is more about just being in contact with their peers, and who their peers know? I have always wondered that, so I just wanted to see if you knew!
Great post!
Hi Camryn,
ReplyDeleteI like how you connected your future profession to this weeks readings! Collaboration is very important in all of our careers. Do you have any idea how someone in the health sciences field would collaborate with their colleagues? I believe working together can create great break throughs! Especially in the health industry! Keep up the great work!
Hi Camryn, you did a good job connecting this week readings to your profession. It always beneficial to open yourself up to new ideas and understand others perspectives. Collaborating with colleagues to hear about their experiences and also with patients will give you a wider background.
