The Connected Educator - Chapter 4 - Camryn Juckett

Image
The chapter begins with explaining how sometimes you may have to change your values and beliefs to create connected learning with others. If you are not optimistic with things, you will never be open to view others opinions. That is not a great mindset to have, especially when you are involved in a connected learning community. There seems to be a lack of re-culturing and education on collaborative culture in today's world.           The chapter moves onto the topic of "Putting Relationships First'. "Fostering, nurturing, and maintaining positive, congenial relationships is the first step toward building collaborative cultures - in your school and in a more global connected learning community" (page 59). It is important that educational environments, such as schools keep congenial and collegial relationships. The slight difference between these two is congeniality is "the polite, friendly relationship we have with one anoth...

Web 2.0 Smackdown Presentation - Zoom - Camryn Juckett

Image
Presentation:   https://youtu.be/RDnWPoMWWvc Zoom is a great app for virtual  calls, whether it be for work, school, or even just another way to talk to many friends. It was created in 2011 by Eric Yuan. It is very easy to create a basic account, just by using an email and a password. Zoom offers many features as I showed in the video but some more fun features are playing games on there, watching a show with your friends on it together, and messing around with the virtual backgrounds. I am very familiar with Zoom because I used it for classes for almost two years when COVID was happening. Personally, Zoom is very easy to navigate and sometimes fun to use. It is very useful nowadays because some people still feel uncomfortable with going out in large groups, and also someone could be out sick but still be there virtually. Overall, Zoom is a very productive app for many people across the globe. I hope my basic run down of the app helps you guys!

The Connected Educator Chapter 5 Summary - Camryn Juckett

Image
To begin with, chapter 5 of The Connected Educator starts off by explaining how Web 2.0 tools are not useful to users unless the users know how the app is helping you understand and learn. Understanding how each tool you use is very important because you need to know how the tool benefits you and your own learning styles. Before downloading and using a Web 2.0 tool without knowing the benefits of it, do some research on the tool. For example, if you are using the tool for school, view and understand how the tool will be useful in your schoolwork, and give the tool a practice before committing to using it daily.      Under the chapter's first subject of social bookmarking, it describes how users can bookmark (tag) a website they are interested in using while doing research. Bookmarking a website will categorize your websites and keep you organized. While tagging websites, "it can also help you connect w...

The Connected Educator Chapter 6 Summary - Camryn Juckett

Image
In chapter 6 of The Connected Educator, the author's main focus is how using a personal learning network creates another level of deeper learning with others who have the same opinions and interests as you. In some cases, they will have different views than you, which can be helpful so you can see from another's perspective. In the beginning of the chapter, she describes her own experience with this learning tool and how it has helped her level of knowledge and growth of her own personal views. She describes how her and another employee from Canada sent artifacts to see each other's culture. Personally, this is very interesting to me and can connect you with other people who have the same feelings you do about things that you never knew existed.       "A personal learning network "involves an individual's topic-oriented goal, a set of practices or techniques aimed at attracting or organizing a variety of relevant content sources, which are selected...

Duolingo is a great tool for learning a new language. It offers 39 languages and displays the lessons in many fun ways. There are lots of games that will help you become familiar with over 2,000 words in a language. Duolingo uses spaced out repetition to help you learn in a quick and effective way. This app is used in many places, especially in schools. Teachers utilize this app to help their students learn even outside the classroom as well.     In my own experience with this app, it has helped me in so many ways possible. Using Duolingo on a daily basis helps me understand a little more with what other people who speak a different language are saying. An example of Duolingo being useful in my life is when I was in Punta Cana last summer, many of them speak fluently in Spanish. Therefore, I was able to speak to them in their language with the help of Duolingo. In my future career Duolingo will also help me because if I work in healthcare many patien...
